I never had the pleasure to meet Derek at conventions but I enjoyed his interviews with Fanderson and on-line and of course his terrific music. My Friend Howard Margolin dedicated his weekly Radio Show, Destinies-The Voice of Science Fiction to Derek and played several clips throughout the show from Derek's Space: 1999 score. I hope it is a comfort to know how much we loved Derek's music and we too will miss him very much.Phil.

Derek - thank you for looking after my mum, Patsy, and for being a loving father to Max and Mary. Your passion for music knew no bounds. I had the privilege of witnessing your many artistic talents and will fondly remember the many occassions when you sat at the piano playing out the melodies. The premier evening of the 'poets calender' was very special.We have had many happy Christmases with you and this year you will be sorely missed. Much love, Andrew

I met Derek in 1965 when I joined Dusty Springfields backing group. After that I went into the Hair Band for the show Hair.This band was formed by Derek and lasted five years. After that I became his copyist and he did many scores for many people. He was a great guy to work for and it did a great deal in keeping me in work. I'm like every one else who knew him and I'm very sorry he's gone.

Patsy, I just learned last night of this very sad news. I will say a prayer today during the service. I always have such fond memories from Gerard Road of how kind Derek was to me in instilling my ambition to be a composer and a good musician and to being a friend.
