There is a splendid tribute to Derek Wadsworth upcoming from Silva Screen.

On the 26th October 2009 they are releasing - at long last - a commercial version of his score for Space:1999 Year 2. See:

It is such a shame that Derek is no longer with us to share in the good news, but I am sure he will celebrate in spirit.

Remember seeing Derek playing with Alex Harvey, just before Alex Harvey became 'Sensational'. Saw them a few times - at the 100 Club and at the Town And Country Club in Hampstead. Loved their take on RnB. Both maybe playing together now in a diferent place.

Somehow I've only just learned of Derek's passing. Derek was not only a very accomplished and original muso, but also very brave in standing up for composer's rights. He will be greatly missed, and I'm so sorry he's no longer with us, except of course in spirit.

I've only found out just now the name of the chap who made that piece of space:1999 music, that I've been humming on and off for 30 years. Just like with star trek, if I caught a whiff of it, Id come pelting down the stairs to the telly. Monstrous! Sorry Derek can't read this but I'm sure it would only be repetition to him. ;)

My father, Norman Tidswell, had known Derek many years and played alongside him in a Skiffle group YEARS ago (I have a photo somewhere). In the last couple of years they had got back in touch with each other but unfortunately my father passed away in March 2008. Hopefully they will be having a catch up somewhere together. Im sorry to the family for your loss. Emma x
